the Center
Center for Economics and
Econometrics was founded in 1995 at
Bogazici
University (BU), Istanbul. Its purpose is to bring together
economists, solid in modern theory and analysis, and enable them conduct
policy oriented research. The Associates of CEE include staff from other
major Turkish universities.
All research associates have hands on
experience with empirical issues and large data bases, including survey
data. Several research staff held senior positions in national and
international organizations such as the State Institute of Statistics, the
Treasury, the World Bank, IFC, EBRD, UNCTAD and UNIDO.

Annual Conferences The annual CEE conference dominates its research agenda:
The topic of 2001 was “Foreign Direct Investment” (FDI), and the conference was held on 22 June.
In 2000, the conference was on “Turkish Banking at the Crossroads” (postponed and held on 19 January 2001 due to the banking crisis in November).
The 1999 conference addressed "Learning to Live with Volatile Capital Movements and Contagion - An Emerging Market Perspective: Turkey".
In 1998, the topic was" Stabilization in an Emerging Market: The Case of Turkey".
The 1997 conference title was "Macroeconomic Management and Currency
Crises". The conference papers are published in special issues of Bogazici
Journal: Review of Social, Economic and Administrative Studies.
Partnerships CEE is in the Partnership Program of the World Bank Institute (formerly World Development Institute) and one of the founding members of the Global Development Network. In this context, jointly with the World Bank, CEE organized several regional policy seminars for high-ranking bureaucrats of Turkic Republics.
CEE is an institutional member of the Inter-University Consortium for International Social Development, and the Economic Research Forum.
Finances and Commercial Research and Training CEE has been financing its research activities from non-governmental sources, mainly through Turkish and foreign private sector sponsorships. CEE also provides economic forecasts, organizes technical training seminars (for, e.g., Istanbul Stock Exchange), and occasionally undertakes other commercial research projects, provided that the research results can be used in academic context.
